I Quit Postmates After 1 Week

Today, I’m going to tell you a story about how I quit Postmates after 1 week. For starters, the advertisements were great. Bravo to their social media teams. The company would say something like make $100 in a week or a day. You know things that will make you sign up.

Postmates is not popular in my side of town. So I end up traveling all over Maryland. To parts, I never saw before in my 22 years of living here. I got my first order on my first day. But it took maybe 5 hours before I got that first order. Mind you how it works is you go to the red part of the map for the best chance of getting orders. They are the hot areas. I drove around that area for 5 hours. I was in a parking lot after another. I got one order. That took me out a little further than where I was.

It was to a pizza spot. When I got there I wanted to cancel immediately. Listen I’m very very shy. I might have social anxiety but that’s beside the point. I put my big boy pants on and went and got the order. I felt like I was back on the football field. I had to park in a parking garage. It was a gigantic hill to the store. I had to go all the way down this giant hill to get a pizza and a 2 liter. The hill killed me on the way back to the car. I felt like I was walking for days.

I finally got in the car and realized I forgot to grab the plates. I looked back at that hill and I drove off. There was no way I was going back for plates. So I end up driving another 20 minutes to the customer. Gave him his order. The punishment I felt while delivering this pizza. At the time I was on a serious diet so smelling my favorite was killing me on the inside.

So money-wise it’s not worth it. My pay was about $5.99 but I did this order around the time when they had bonuses going on so there was an additional $5 plus a 4$ tip. So I came out with 15.71 cents. 5 HOURS OF SITTING AND WAITING ONLY GOT ME 15 DOLLARS. After that, I went back to the air quotes hot area. I stayed for another 3 hours and didn’t get not one order. So I went on home. Another hour drive back home.

I got up early the next day and got back to it. I went to another hot zone and surprisingly after 1 hour, I got an order. It was to a Denny’s. I went and got the order no nerves this time. The house now was like 4 miles away in early morning traffic. I delivered it and went back to the hot zone. 1 hour went past then another went past and then surprisingly another went PAST. At this point, hope was gone, and I was gone. I went back home with 27$ for those 2 days. I used that to fill up my tank.

After that, I went out a couple more days during the week but I had no luck at all. I didn’t get any more deliveries. I basically quit after that. I still got an account but I don’t use it. It’s a gas burner and not worth it in my eyes. I went to the hot areas every time but had no luck. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be. I have seen a lot of success stories this just happen to not be one of them. If you would like to try your luck, sign up Here
